Reformation - Original Painting
Original Acrylic Painting, Float-Framed
63cm H x 43 cm W, Gloss Varnished
Inside the Chrysalis, we are Re-Formed.
During worship, I saw a Chrysalis. Just like pebbles fall into a pond and cause ripples, a Word from God falls into our heart and causes reverberations in our spirit. In the chrysalis, this was happening and when the ripples reached the edge and doubled back, a solidification occurred so that a ‘point’ of becoming a butterfly happened there in the soupy mush inside the cocoon. We once were a grub, looking only to consume and relegated to the earth but we become a glorious flying being. Mouthparts made to chomp on leaves are now a proboscis that can only feed on nectar.
Eventually, these transformed organs joined up and a fully formed butterfly was ready to emerge.
I thought about the process. I wonder what the butterfly sees or dreams of as it is being transformed. It is a ‘re-formation’ because the creature forms anew. It’s a ‘transformation’ because it becomes an entirely ‘other’ being. But in us, it’s really a ‘Christ--formation’ because Christ is being formed in us. In the prayer closet, we go to mush before God. He reshapes us into His own IMAGE as we behold Him.
