Motherhood - Print
Acrylic Painting Print (unframed)
8* x 10” with white border on Poster Paper with Foam backing in Cellophane Sleeve
In May 2018, I was invited to paint during a pre-Mother's Day event at Mel's Angels, a child-care center in Hallam, Victoria. The atmosphere was heartwarming, with children dancing to songs, presenting handmade gifts to their mothers, and four mothers sharing what motherhood means to them.
I painted "Motherhood”. Though I wasn't keeping track, they said it took only 30 minutes, and it still resonates with me deeply.
Here’s what I see in it:
Motherhood is an elevated position.
Mothers often feel like they are "out on a limb."
When feeling isolated, mothers can connect with their community (the tree that holds the limbs together) for strength.
It's essential to set appropriate boundaries for our children (fences in the background).
Our homes may be messy, and our spaces often require hard work (dirt and garden fork), with things out of place (Lego block). Yet, even in the chaos, there are daily treasures to celebrate (little flowers).
We may find ourselves caring for other people's children with as much love as our own (the different coloured egg).
None of our babies is perfect, but each one is beautiful.
A mother’s wings may be grounded while nurturing her children, but this is only for a season. Soon, they will leave the nest. We cherish this time more and see its purpose more clearly when we focus on higher things and maintain gratitude.
I hope this painting speaks to you about the special place mothers hold in our hearts.
